    Magnesium fluoride (MGF2) is a birefringent crystal with high hardness, strong resistance to mechanical shock and thermal shock. It has excellent broadband optical transmittance and can be used for UV and mid-infrared transmission. Its transmission of DUV makes it ideal for applications in hydrogen-Lehman lines, UV radiation sources and receivers, and excimer lasers. Magnesium fluoride is a powerful material that can be used to resist chemical corrosion, laser damage, mechanical and thermal shock. Its knoop hardness is 415 and the refractive index is 1.38.
